How to Connect Bank Account to Quickbooks Online
SOLVED: Bank Account is not connecting to Quickbooks. How to Fix.
First I will explain my situation. I have a UK Natwest bank account and I’m a reluctant ‘subscriber’ to Quickbooks self employed. I found My Bank Account is Not Connecting to Quickbooks!
This fix I found personally and it will most likely work with other banks and in other countries.
Bank Account Connection Errors
What happened was that the latest tax return was due and I had to submit my accounts. I, as always, left it until the last minute. So I logged into my Quickbooks Online Account and went to connect my Paypal and Natwest Current Accounts. I managed to get the Paypal account connected relatively easily but the Natwest Bank Account kept giving an error and would not import my transactions, it wouldn’t even connect! I tried multiple methods but got the same result every time. The Quickbooks forums were of no use at all and I find it dreadful that they have the nerve to charge us a monthly fee with a broken product and extremely poor customer service. So here I am paying them and even doing their work for them!
The fix: When you connect your bank account to Quickbooks you have to use Open Banking. A legal requirement for prolonged access awarded to QB and agreed to by the bank account owner.
How to Connect Quickbooks to your Bank Account
So what can you do if your Bank Account is not connecting to Quickbooks? Basically you have to click through on the add account page and login to your bank via a Quickbooks portal. I personally have multiple accounts with Natwest but only one account for my business. So the procedure was, log into my bank account via the QB Portal then select the account I want to give QB access to. Then on the next screen was the account connection part. Here it asked me to choose my account yet NO account was showing. To solve this problem I went back to the start of the process and when Natwest asked which accounts I want to grant access to I selected ALL the accounts. Then when I went back to the account connection page the account I wanted to use WAS there and this sorted the issue for me.
I hope this helps someone!
Have a nice day.
Jamie.
