How Do I Quit Smoking?
First I must tell you I began smoking at 16 years old. My habit steadily progressed from chasing a tobacco rush to 50 a day morning until night. My first thought in the morning was a cup of tea and a ciggie. At 36, after some extreme life events and after tens of people previously telling me I should quit I decided to have a serious go at it. I had tried many times before with my record being three weeks, but was determined this time. I made an appointment with the Nurse for advice and substitutes. The nurse gave me a tube to blow into to see how much poison was in my system from smoking and my result was off the gauge!!! She also gave me a date to quit and a one week prescription of smoking alternatives. The alternatives were patches and a nicotine inhaler and she only gave me a weeks supply probably to save money in case I failed. I also made a wager with my mother, who also smoked and still does! A wager with another smoker is a good motivator over those first few days. Anyway, it wasn’t until hindsight that I figured out how I stopped smoking. Smoking addiction consists of two properties, addiction and habit. You must overcome both to be a non smoker!
