How to fix ‘Something went wrong – try to check out again’ error message on eBay

‘Something went wrong – try to check out again’

Error Codes: 70245 70350

If, like me, you have just bought something on eBay and received the error stated above you are probably feeling a little frustrated. Therefore, I began my quest for the resolution of this problem and here is what I’ve found.

1. If ordering on a mobile / cell phone there were reports of switching to eBay classic mode and then retrying the payment. I personally didn’t try that but went straight to the second supposed fix.

2. Another solved theory stated to simply pay on another device, which I tried and it didn’t work for me. I tried on my phone, games console (PS4) AND my laptop without any luck.

3. This final method solved the error for me and I was able to successfully pay for my item.

Please follow the instructions below

Login to My Ebay Summary Page

Click ACCOUNT

In the menu on the left click PERSONAL INFORMATION or BUSINESS INFORMATION depending on your account type.

Scroll down until you see ‘Checkout saved payment methods’

Remove the card or payment method that is there and simply repay.

I too experienced the “Something went wrong – please try to check out again” notification. I tried reading, so many ‘community’ and blog answers to correct it, but sadly nothing provided me with the answer…?

Until I eventually went onto >My eBay > Account > Personal Information > Financial Information.

I have an PayPal account, but I prefer to pay through my Credit Card. What I realised then was, my CC details had expired and I needed to input the new expiry and 3 ‘magic numbers’ on the back of the card.

After making those changes, It took a couple of minutes for eBay to ‘confirm’ the account changes…and then I was able to start purchasing again as usual.

While I accept, this may not be the answer for everyone’s purchase problem, it worked for me. And, don’t forget, all of our Debit and Credit Card details are changed every three years. Next time this arises, I’ll know how to correct it.

I couldn’t believe I hadn’t thought of this sooner!? But, why oh why, can’t eBay offer this as a potential reason, for ‘a problem’ while purchasing items? It’s not exactly difficult for them to suggest it is it?

Too busy counting their profits no doubt eh folks?

My thought exactly; how difficult can it be for ebay to list this as a possible cause. Thanks for the tip.

    IT WORKS, Third method. Thanks.

    Yes, that worked…
Remove the card or payment method that is there and simply repay.

Hi. The 3rd method worked for me. This is what I found. My credit card number was voided out. Why? When ebay changes something in the agreement between the company and buyers and sellers, our payment information becomes void because we have not agreed to the new terms. And so by law, ebay cannot use the old information again. This is why I was getting the something blah blah. To correct the problem we need to go over (paypal) payment account and re-enter the information again-so as to indicate that we have read the new agreement and have accepted the new terms.
