Please find information on how to get Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas working on Windows 7 and Windows 8.
A year or so ago I bought Fallout 3 and New Vegas on the PC. I had already completed them on the PS3 and wanted to try them on my computer.
Upon launch of both games, Fallout 3 on Windows 7 and New Vegas on Windows 8, I could not get past the start screen, the game would just crash.
Fallout 3 Windows 7
This is where I first encountered problems running a steam version of Fallout 3 Game of the Year edition. I Googled for solutions and tried pretty much everything that was suggested. Here is a list of common fixes I found during my research.
The most common was that I had to download a dodgy dll file and put it in the Fallout 3 game folder.
Another was to run the game in compatibility mode for Windows XP
Also quite common was a theory that I had to set fallout3.exe to run as administrator
Finally another suggested solution was to change the number of processors that are active during game play.
Well, if I can remember correctly none of these procedures proved successful. However I found a fifth solution not only successful with Fallout 3 Windows 7 and Windows 8 but also fixes New Vegas and many other older games.
Fallout 3 Crash Fix
All you have to do is install and login to the latest version of ‘games for windows live’ which you can download here >>LINK OUTDATED AND REMOVED<<. It really is that simple!
Fallout New Vegas Windows 8
The same fix listed above works for New Vegas on Windows 8, as with many other games that throw up the same problems. Always try the games for windows live program before you mess with your computer.
Fallout 3 & New Vegas Freezing?
This is a common problem on the Playstation 3 but I am yet to experience any freezing on the Steam version.
Also, if you like Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas, check out this great site I found for mods including texture enhancements which improve the graphics of the game. You will need a high spec PC with that mod though. Click here for the mods site.
